General Design
The name Pure & Simple has described the main spirit of this theme: the design based on purity and simpleness.
The demo has the full-width layout to give the "open" feeling. If you choose the Smaller Width for your site, there will be a black background like this. You can replace this black background by another image in the background image section and it will look so distinctive.

This WordPress blog theme mainly uses neutral colors: light grey, white, blue-grey as. The post thumbnails are also black and white photography. That choice makes the theme extremely cool, elegant and a bit nostalgic.
The Open-san and Times are the 2 fonts used in this theme. They are the classic choice for a readable and serious WordPress blog.
The front page is made to look clean and attractive without any decorative elements like icons or lines. Meanwhile, the blog serves as a reading page. The list structure and small featured image are the sign of a blog for a readable purpose. Here you can see that the author frequently uses the slim straight lines to make it tidier and more attractive.
The use of straight lines
To orient to the simple and pure style, the header is made to be super straightforward. There is just a logo site in the center of the header area. The logo has a creative design, reduces the feeling of empty and boring in this area.

Contrary to the simple look of the header, the hero image on the front page is like a blast. It's full-screen and so impressive with the mountain picture. I suddenly feel really free and pure with this picture.

Everything is made to be so clean on this front page. There is also no sidebar in order not to distract other elements on this page. But you should know that the free version doesn't support Portfolio so this demo is for the Pro Version.

On other pages, the sidebar appears on the right side under the header, but it can be on the left or hidden as well. The sidebar also looks simple and humble. No stickky sidebar or banner for advertising here.

Finally, I find the line spacing and the arrangement on a single page is reasonable, which gives me a sense of "flow".
Responsive
This theme still keeps a good design even when you use it on different devices without any mistake. Especially, the hero image is still so stunning in every device. You can see the responsive design checked by ami.responsivedesign.is.
