Biscuit Lite Theme Review

General design

The design is primarily based on straight lines and squares, looking pretty straightforward. The line spacing inside a post is adequate, giving a sense of "flow". But if your post title is divided into 2 lines, the line spacing is quite small, which makes it looks a bit cramped.

The Demo colors are mainly white, black, and light grey. This combination makes it classic and bright. If you want to make your website colorful and creative, you can change the color palette.

The typography is fixed with 2 font types. The heading and title are used with Cursive font, combined with the San-serif body text. When it comes to Cursive fonts, the headings look so prominent with curved styles, in contrast with the basic and eligible San-serif font. In general, these fonts balance each other, giving the sense of both classic and creativeness

One thing I don't like much about this theme is that the posts on the archive page appear with full content, making my page too long. Hence, I can't keep the reader to scan the whole content of my blog. That's why this theme is more suitable for a food blogger to write short food recipes here.

All the elements in the header and sidebar are all justified. That arrangement is totally neat and balanced.

Responsive

This theme has the ability to be adaptive in every kind of device. I tested it on my PC, laptop, iPhone, and iPad and see that it performs okay without any problem.

The design in different devices

There is no 1-click demo import. So, after you activate the theme, it will not look as pretty as the demo if you have a new website.

You just need to add the content and widget to your page. The color is already similar to the demo color so you don't have to change any color. The manipulations are easy and I'm sure that it won't take your time.

This theme recommends Jetpack plugin in the Plugin Tag. But as I read in the documentation, Jetpack is supported in the Pro version only.

It's not a feature-rich theme so many features are not available. But you still own all the standard ones for a simple blog.

The author suggests you install WP Instagram Widget and WP Recipe Maker to have more features, especially for a food blog.

Except for the color, there are not many sections to change. All the manipulations can be done in the Customizer.

There are a lot of custom colors to modify, even the smallest elements. You can change the color easily in the color section. But you should read the title and test it carefully as too much color sections may confuse you. You can see that I tested some sections here.

Besides the color, you can change the background image and it appears under the content box. For example, I choose an image here and set it up to fit with the page.

All the basic widgets can be added in the sidebar and 3 footer columns. All you need is just going to Widget and choose a position to add the widget.

There is just 1 style for the header area. But if you find the default header is boring, you can add a header image. The header image is chosen from your uploaded files. Additionally, you can crop it to any size that you want.

When you create and edit your post for daily use, it has no difficulty at all. I'm a beginner and it takes me just a day to know how to use this theme.

There is every basic format needed for your posts like the gallery, video, blockquote, line, and dot...

The gallery display in a very beautiful way. The images will be automatically cropped to fit in the gallery if you enable "Crop files". You can also choose the number of columns and the layout for it.

The blockquote is displayed in 2 styles. Both 2 styles look not much different from the normal text excerpt for the first style with bigger font size.

The video is shown with a quite large screen like this, easy to watch without zooming.

I checked the SEO configuration with some special tools. The result indicates that Biscuit is not totally optimized for SEO. I also find no suggested plugin for this feature.

I used Page Speed Insight, a prestigious tool to see the speed of this theme. It shows that it has a low speed when you use both mobile devices and computers.

You can find the documentation for the general getting start and Biscuit theme. However, there are only 2 articles for the 2 features of the Pro Biscuit version only.

The support forum welcomes all questions from the user. You just need to login and create a topic. The response time is during the weekday. The author replies with a very useful and detail response.
