Just by using the Customization, you can change many aspects of this theme apart from the layout and typography, which are unchangeable. Yet I think the default layout is nice to use and you should pay attention to the special options below.
This theme has many different areas allowing you to add images like the footer background, breadcrumb background, header image, background image of the whole page... The header image can be cropped to any size you want, but the footer background image and breadcrumb background image can't be resized. Hence, you should crop it before uploading to make it look reasonable, unlike I did here.

Other ways to embellish your page is recoloring it. Yet there is only one color option, not enough to make the appearance of your website more colorful.

The number of social links is five, adequate to use. It's easy to add any link you want here but it's not simple to add the icons. You have to go to Font Awesome and add the shortcode in the right tracks.

Like most of the other themes, the widget area includes one sidebar and 4 footer columns. Together with the common widget from WordPress, Avocation gives you its own Recent post widget. I recommend that you should use it instead of WordPress's one because it encloses the beautiful thumbnails.

The most special section of this theme is the Frontpage options.
Firstly, there are 4 sliders in the Slider section. It's not many but I consider that four sliders are quite enough to use, right? The amazing thing about this area is that you aren't forced to choose pages, posts or categories. It's free and simple to select any images, URL, and title to your sliders. Especially, the image can be cropped to any size as you want.
