Blogberg Theme Review

General design

The first impression of me is the clean, bright and creative appearance of this WordPress blog theme. It has important features for your blog like a large slider, a full-width Instagram Carousel. The design is based primarily on straight slim lines. Straight line makes the reader feels solid, powerful and orderly.

The zoom-in effect extremely enhances the creativity of the design.

Other elements

The color palette is the combination of cool and warm color. The cool color like light grey, black and white are the safe choice of a website. They make the appearance classic and legible. Meanwhile, the yellow parts give out the highlight to make this theme more creative.

Hind and Playfair-display are the two fonts used in the design. I love the way the sans-serif and the serif font combine with each other. The Hind makes the text readable while the Playfair-display emphasizes the heading.

On the archived post page, there is one latest post displayed with the larger thumbnail. And the other posts are left in the 2-column masonry structure. Indeed, the masonry structure helps the posts look really well-organized and neat.

The header is as clean, well-arranged as you may expect. There are even multiple positions for the menu, especially the slide-out menu jumping out when you click the hamburger button. This menu is made to save room for other factors. It also looks as tidy and simple as the header.

The footer area has everything you need: footer columns, footer menu, social linking icon, and a logo. Do you see the curved line looks like the waves here? They bring about emotion, making this area so attractive rather than a simple, boring place.

The sidebar is on the left of every page. There is 1 style for the sidebar and no sticky sidebar. In general, the widgets in the sidebar are arranged very clear and tidy.

The most attractive feature of this theme is the nearly full-screen slider. It has a trendy design with a box containing all the necessary information about that post. I guess that you can't help yourself from clicking the purple button, exploring more about the post.

On the single post page, the full-screen feature image is also very impressive. It takes the spotlight of the whole page.

Finally, I have a mistake of this theme: the page navigation doesn't work at the present so you can't load more post in the archived page. I hope that the author will fix it soon.

Responsive

When you use this theme in PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone, the design is still fine. I don't see any mistake of this theme in different devices at all. You can see the responsive design checked by ami.responsivedesign.is.

This WordPress blog theme gives you a demo file to help you quickly has a similar website as the demo. But they don't recommend the one-click demo import plugin in the Dashboard so you have to find this plugin and install it yourself. The Instagram carousel is compatible when you install the Instagram Feed plugin. In the documentation, it's said you just need to insert the shortcode in the Customizer to have the Instagram carousel like the demo. Yet I did more than one step to set up the Instagram Feed in the Dashboard.

I think that the work of setting up may be quite hard for the person first experiencing the WordPress theme like me.

It will be easier if you decide to manually set up your website. You can find the custom features in Customizer and set up your website easily.

The Instagram Carousel is compatible with Instagram Feed plugin. The social sharing button goes with AddToAny Share Buttons plugin. All these plugins are recommended in the Dashboard

This theme supports many editable/enable/disable section. I test all the section on my website to write this WordPress theme review and here are some most noticeable sections for you.

You can make your website super colorful as you can imagine with the diverse editable color sections. And like most of the other WordPress themes that I reviewed, you can set an image as the background.

The Theme section gives you the right to modify all the elements like footer, header, layout, single post, archive post...

The slider has only 1 default style and can be disabled. But you can change many components of it to personalize your own slider.

However, there is one restriction- the number of slides and the content type. The maximum number of posts is 3, and the category is the only content type you can show. I suppose that this is a small number for this important section.

If you disable the slider section, the chosen header image replaces it. Both the slider and header image look fitted with the whole site, really impressive.

Other than the fixed header, Blogberg gives you a sticky header so that you can see it whenever you scroll. There is also 1 default style for this area but you can make a bit change when disabling the search icon and hamburger menu. This default style is good enough to use so I don't think that you will need to change it.

There are also 3 editable sections in the footer area. It's your choice to on/off the footer column and Instagram carousel. All the actions can be done properly.

Here we have multiple layouts for the whole site and for the individual pages. It doesn't just stop with the sidebar position. It comes with the style and structure of the archived post, the full-width and container layout of the whole site. All the style and layout works properly when I apply them.

And there are many more options for you to carefully change the archive page and the single post page's elements.

Lastly, I will mention the social menu. To have the social icons on the header and footer, you have to edit the social menu in the Menu section. I love the fact that the number of URL is unlimited so I can freely add any Social networking site to connect with my reader.

It seems like you can control every factor, even the smallest one in your website. But there is still 1 fixed feature: the typography. In my opinion, I see no problem with the default font so I don't need to change it.

To get familiar with this WordPress blog theme, you just need to spend half of a day. The necessary formats for a blog are available and display very nicely.

The video embeds that way so the readers don't need to zoom in to watch.

Your gallery looks very good even when the photos inside have different sizes.

I verify the SEO compatibility by some tools and find that this theme hasn't been totally customized for SEO yet. So I hope that they will improve it soon.

Speed is not a strength of this WordPress blog theme. I test the speed by the PageSpeed Insight, and the result is that the score is under medium in both mobile device and computer.
