General design
The aesthetic appeal is what users immediately think about when viewing this theme. The classic style and fashionable design can be seen through color, typeface, and the way the author uses the thin straight line to decorate. And that formal and refined design provokes a sense of nostalgia.
Other elements
The perfect blend between color and typography creates the classic and cool appearance of Classic Blog. Light grey is the main color in the palette. It represents the most classic color and it's even eyes-friendly. Additionally, the other dark blue minor elements enhance the coolness.
As for the typeface, Fairplay Display with different style makes things artistic and "noble". That's really matched with the main spirit of this WordPress blog. Besides, Source San Pro helps the body content easy to read.
Despite having quite many elements, the first screen area doesn't look glitzy at all. It's well-organized and prominent with the big centered title and other smaller elements. To avoid distracting this area, a background menu is such a good idea. Hence, you can enjoy a spacious header as well as have enough important elements like a header menu and other widgets.
Background menu
The transition animation when turning this menu is so interesting. This fast movement makes me feel "satisfied" as it's always ready to show up any time I want.
Nevertheless, there is a small matter with the tagline when I display a header image. I can't deny that a header image makes this are more creative, but the tagline is completely covered by a white tag like this.

Next, this theme has both grid and list structure for the front page. It's grid when showcases the featured posts, which helps readers scan and skim quickly the content. Meanwhile, when displaying the blog, the list with the large images is more effective to grab people's attention on each post. Notably, when you display a sidebar on the left or right, it appears beside the list of posts. That's a good point because if it moved up to the featured blog area, this area would be so narrow and cramped.

On the single post page, the center single-column layout of the post gives me a favorable condition to enjoy reading.

The design not only helps things legible but also makes images so prominent. Specifically, to boost the effection of images, the author uses the lightbox pop-up.

Responsive
This WordPress blog shows up on desktop and tablet with good design. However, when using it on my iPhone 5 or some similar viewports, I see one problem with the design as you can see here.
