Hitchcock Theme Review

General design

I'm impressed by the minimal but intuitive and symmetrical design of this theme. All the elements are centralized, really well-balanced and comfortable.

Other elements

The background header image is the dominated factor among others. It's so overwhelming that the color scheme becomes less important in the design. Apparently, you can change this image, but I find the overlay of this image makes the whole site quite dark. Besides, you can enable the title and overlay for the features post on the front page as I did below. However, I still prefer the style in the demo as the images can be much more clear and prominent.

I really admire the way all the featured images on the front page are displayed automatically with a similar size. That design gives me a strong impression at first sight, which is not all the portfolio themes can do.

This WordPress portfolio theme doesn't have any widget area. And the perk of having no sidebar or footer widget is that readers may focus more on the content, and the inner pages can keep the central one-column style. Additionally, the content on the inner page is put on a white background, feeling relaxed like reading a real paper.

The design is shown perfectly in all kinds of viewport. That means this WordPress portfolio has its own way to look reasonable and nice in tablet, PC, smartphone or any screen.

It's super easy to install and set up this theme, even a non-professional user like me can get everything under configured quickly.

Despite not supporting the one-click demo import, it's still very easy to have a similar look like the demo. If you already a full-content page, you need to do nearly nothing except for setting up the latest post for your homepage and adding the menu and social media. All can be done in the convenient Customizer.

This WordPress portfolio theme covers all the basic features. But the number of features doesn't diverse and no plugin is recommended so you have to find plugin yourself to get more interesting things.

You just need to use the Customizer to change all the custom features of this theme. The number of custom features is small, which can be an advantage when you don't have to think much about them. Moreover, it's super simply editable and can be seen through live preview accurately.

There is only one section to change the color. Yet you can choose any color for the hover header title. Besides, you can enable the post title here quickly by just one click.

Hitchcock has two menu locations and you should pay attention to the social menu location. By creating a social menu and add to the social menu here, you are able to choose whatever and any social link you want.

That's all the basic features that you can modify. The widget, typography and layout and other elements stay unchanged. I bet that a minimal ad also, a beginner may like that fact. The simple and easy customizer helps this kind of user save a lot of time and make life so easy.

There are all the standard post formats, which are easy to create and edit, to help your posts diverse and unique.

By using some tool, I found that this WordPress portfolio is totally ready for SEO.

As for the speed, I used PageSpeed Insights to check. It reports that the speed is medium, not so good but still passable.

Like the other themes from this author, I couldn't find the documentation for Hitchcock at the moment.

In the WordPress support forum, the author is responsible for answering the topics here. But you have to wait a few days for his response.
