Modern Store is absolutely a template for an E-commerce site. It's a free WordPress theme from CompeteThemes that helps you build an online store in a minute.

The simple, minimal and clean design makes Modern Store a safe choice for any site. If you are a beginner and don't know how to use and set up a store with WooCommerce, don't worry as it's well-documented and has dedicated support from the author.

Design

General design

There are not many things to describe the design. It's clean, well-arranged and airy enough to make me feel quite satisfied.

Other elements

Simple black and white color for background and texts are the common choices for an E-Commerce site. They make the appearance readable and bright. Sometimes, the author scatters some minor yellow elements to highlight the important details, which help attract people's attention more.

Lato is used as the only default font. It's simple, readable when combined with the color scheme.

The header is the most complicated area with many elements. Yet compared to another theme it still looks simpler. To help customers search products more easily, the author also put the long search bar in the most prominent area here. Luckily, we have a beautiful hero image in the right place. I bet that without the full-width hero image, this theme will be so boring.

Header area

The body content that having stores and categories is well-arranged and tidy. Each image and section is put on a grid structure and separated by adequate distance, which allows people to scan products with ease and comfort.

The design excludes the sidebar and footer widget. I think that the author just wants to focus on the product.

On the product page, it's so awesome that you can zoom to see your product closely.

Responsive

Customization

To restyle your website appearance, you have many options in Customizer.

But it just lets you change one color section so it's hard to be colorful and creative.

Customizing color

I am given three options to arrange the text on the header image. It's so good to change the alignment while in many themes, I can't do it so the text may cover some important parts of my image. Moreover, I can display this header image on any other pages I want.

Customizing header image and title

Choosing the number of products for each product section on the homepage is easy. Each product section has an equivalent section on the Homepage Builder and all the sections are given favorable conditions to be edited. For example, you can add up to 17 items for this Featured Product area and select the order among the 3 default orders.

Customizing feature product

Yet as for this Featured Product, you should select the Feature box here before setting this part in Customizer. If you are just a layman and don't notice this section, it may take time for you to figure it out.

Choosing a featured product in the Dashboard

There is only one widget area, which lies on the sidebar of the Product page. However, you can't change the position or turn on/of this sidebar.

There are some more minor things that the author offers in the Customizer. They are all easily and properly managed. Just try and see!

The Verdict

If you are looking for a basic and simple E-Commerce site, don't need to look further, Modern Store is a good move. Thanks to the simple and airy design, you can sell anything without any fear at all. The speed is quite okay that you don't need to think so much about loading time.

However, it's not a feature-rich theme so you shouldn't expect too many things from it.
