General design

The design is flexible, innovative and fancy. You can see many different tools like straight lines, curved lines, boxes, and frames to create the elements and decorate the theme. They are used very carefully and harmoniously so you can see a clean, bright but still creative and elaborate.

Other elements

Because a food website is very colorful with different delicious dishes, the author uses only the basic color: black, white and brown. They make the appearance light and friendly.

The fonts are diverse: hand-writing style family font - Playball- for the headings on the static homepage, while Sans-serif and Montserrat are for the body texts and other headings. This combination helps Yummy readable and aesthetic at the same time.

The front page is designed with many extraordinary features. They are full-width and extremely prominent so you can feel like having no fear to show off all your best things here outstandingly.

What I love most is that the author creates and combines the parallax effect, zoom-in and changing-color effect reasonably. That's why it looks fabulous and can avoid being glitzy.

However, I find a mistake when your featured images have different sizes on the Special Items and Testimonial like I did here. So you should choose the images carefully in order not to ruin the balanced design.

The other pages are also impressive. You can see how beautiful and unique the posts on the archive page are displayed. This kind of arrangement is by far the most special and striking that I've seen.

The single post page is also very nice. You can see both a full-width header image and a large featured image here. The line spacing is adequate, giving a sense of flow and smoothness.

Responsive

Yummy has a good design even in a tablet or smartphone, or any viewports as well. Especially, you can see that the featured slider is still pretty in all devices.

After you install and activate, you can use this free WordPress theme immediately without any difficulty.

Yummy isn't compatible with one-click demo import so you have to manually set up it if you want to make it similar to the demo. At first, it requires you to choose a static front page in the Customizer. Then, you need to spend a lot of time customizing the static front page and the Customizer will help you easily make it.

Because it's a multipurpose WordPress theme, Yummy is compatible with multiple features for blog, business or e-commerce websites. Furthermore, the author suggests that you install and set up Jetpack to have more activated features.

You can customize almost every aspect of this theme, both the basic and advanced ones by using Customizer. The work of customizing won't take your time much and is easy to do. You don't even need to go to the Dashboard or do some complicated things to edit the special sections on the front page.

The color, header image, menu and background image can be changed properly like other themes so I won't mention them much in this review. I think that you should pay attention to the HomePage Section.

After setting a static page as a front page, you can display many special features here like Slider, About Us, Testimonials, and so on. They can be quickly enabled/disabled by one click.

For example, the Slider features your pages with three default pages only. I suppose that it's better to have more than three pages to show here. The advantage of this area is that the featured images are shown in a similar default style. Hence, your first screen area is very well-balanced.

The About Us section will look as good as the demo if you select an image in the About Section widget.

The number of items in the Menu Sections is limited to 4. Yet luckily, it allows you to choose the items from two normal categories or two WooCommerce items.  If you want to have a food menu with more customizability than this one, you may try this method.

Overall, I find no difficulty in setting up the sections that display only featured pages. But the sections displaying posts like Special Items Section, Testimonial Section are quite complicated to set up. Specifically, in the content type of Special Items Section and Testimonial Section, you have to insert the Post Ids instead of selecting one from the list. If you're a layman in this field, I bet that you don't know what Post Ids and have to learn about it.

Customizing Special Items

Besides all the standard post formats, this theme has special options that you can edit directly in the Edit Post. That's very convenient.

Additionally, there are many different alignments for your post block. I suggest that you show your video, image, gallery,...full-width, wide-width to make it more attractive.

After checking by some tools, I realized that this free WordPress theme hasn't been optimized well for SEO yet. So if you want to have this feature, you have to install a plugin in. Among the recommended plugin by the author, there is no plugin for SEO so you have to find one by yourself.

Although having a lot of images, the speed still shows its good point. I think that 84/100 is a pretty fine result for this theme. I tested the speed by Google PageSpeed Insight, a popular tool from Google.

The documentation is divided into different topics so that you can quickly find which part you are searching for. It's described exactly what you need for every aspect of using a theme, from installation, set up and customization. Plus, the illustrations are cropped from screen-capture images and annotated so it helps people understand quickly.

The support forum welcomes free users in the "Free Support" tab. Like other free themes of Theme Palace, the author supports here very enthusiastically. Moreover, a search bar can help you quickly search for the forum and find the related-topic.

Besides, there is a list of the most-meet problem in the F.A.Q section. You should read it before asking a specific question in the forum, which will help you save your time.
