PhotoFrame Theme Review

General design

The design of this theme surely will make you feel so comfortable and cheerful. It's mainly based on straight lines, looking very solid and elegant. Moreover, the way the posts are displayed on the homepage is diverse:  grid, list structure, and single hero content. Hence, the readers can find it's so inspiring to explore all the posts.

To recap, this is a light and decent WordPress theme, so it can be suitable for every blogger, both genders and all type of ages.

Other elements

As a decent theme, the color scheme includes light grey, black and white. That palette makes it strongly classic and balanced. As for the typography, the author uses Frank Ruhl Libre for the heading and Montserrat for the body content. That is a wise choice as the Frank Ruhl Libre displays the heading prominently while Montserrat makes the body text readable.

The most powerful feature of PhotoFrame is the inspiring full-screen slider. On the slider, the header is made to be minimized and look as simplest as possible. I think that this design aims at concentrating on the slider and avoiding any distraction. Moreover, this is a sticky menu, a convenient way to help you see the menu even when you scroll down the page.

Amazingly, the logo color switches to black or white depending on the photo slider tone. Thanks to this feature, the reader can easily see the logo clearly on every image.

The featured images on other pages are shown this way as well, really attractive.

On the homepage, you have 3 featured images showing in a grid structure and a list of the latest posts. They are well-arranged and very symmetrical with the content and other elements

The footer appears with a very simple design. That's a good way to make this area spacious and airy. But I think there should be a title for each footer column so that the readers can know the name of the widget.

In this demo, the author doesn't use the sidebar in any pages. I think that his purpose is to make the readers focus on the photograph only.

After installing, if you have a brand new website, it will not look like the demo. So you have to spend a bit of time to customize your website in a traditional way. I find it very easy and convenient to do that. All you have to do is available in the customizer.

It allows you to change some important features like header slider, menu style, main color. But they are still quite limited. I test all the custom features and see that all the manipulation can be done in the Customizer quickly.

I will begin with the color section. There are only 2 sections: header text and background. They can be applied rightly.

Unlike other WordPress themes that I have reviewed, this theme doesn't have a background image to make your website more creative.

Next, there are 2 header styles. I prefer the center style as it looks more well-organized. Besides, there are some options for single pages and homepage here.

The list of Featured page is populated with Pages only so you can't show your prominent posts or categories as you want. They give you 3 pages to show here. I think that this number is enough for you to use.

In this paragraph, I will give a compliment on the header slider. In the Header image, you can choose the unlimited number of photos to show. If you just upload 1 photo, it will be a static header image. If you upload more than 1 photo, it will automatically turn to a slider. Remember that this is a WordPress photography so the slider just display your photo. No page, category or post can be selected here.

This WordPress theme has multiple positions to add widget but no sidebar. They provide you with all the basic widget from WordPress. All the positions can be rendered properly.

This theme has an easy address for daily using. All the post formats are provided so you can create a diverse post in the most convenient way.

The blockquote has 2 styles. They are put in a box to differentiate them with the normal text.

I checked the SEO configuration and know that this WordPress photography theme has not been ready for SEO yet. So you have to search and install a SEO plugin without any recommendation from the author. I'm just a beginner so finding a suitable plugin may be a difficult mission for me.

As for the speed, I tested by PageSpeed Insight. It reports that the speed is medium.

With the detailed and understandable documentation, I bet that you can easily set up your website. But I think they should add some screen captures of the Customizer section to make the instruction clearer.
